Child Sacrifice Should Be Illegal…But It’s Not

Posted on January 5, 2026January 4, 2026 by James Williams

From the beginning, God commanded his people to “be fruitful and multiply and fill the earth…” God created man in his image, and he desires that the earth would be full of his image bearers. Thus, it’s not a surprise when the forces of evil seek to cause death for as many people as possible. Jesus tells us that Satan was a murderer from the beginning (John 8:44).

Desiring to protect life, God wrote protections into the law. Knowing evil’s desire to murder even children, God prohibits child sacrifice: “You shall not give any of your children to offer them to Molech, and so profane the name of your God” (Lev. 18:21).

It seems strange that such a law was ever needed, but it’s not the only time such an evil practice is mentioned in the Old Testament (Deut. 12:31, 2 Kings 16:3, Ezek. 16:20-21, Jer. 7:30-31). At times, Israel disobeyed and practiced such evil (Psalm 106:36-41).

Sacrificing Children For Gain

Whether to appease a false god, seek financial prosperity, or bring about blessings in general, people throughout the Old Testament were willing to sacrifice their children for some sort of personal gain.

Such behavior seems barbaric and hard to believe. It seems unthinkable that any parent would be willing to sacrifice their child no matter what they may profit.

Though we look back in disgust at such behavior, we still practice child sacrifice today. For the sake of convenience, advancement of our careers, financial freedom, or some other personal gain, many parents still sacrifice their children while in the womb of their mother.

And it’s legal.

We’ve sanitized it and made it more respectable. Rather than publicly in the street, we do it in a nice clinic and call it healthcare. Rather than sending our child through a fire, we can take a pill and our “problem” is no more. Instead of calling it murder, we call it a woman’s right.

Such evil isn’t done in the name of Molech; instead we offer our children in subtle worship to our personal autonomy. If a child will cost us financially, if we are unwilling to do the hard work of caring for him, or if having a child brings us stress that we determine is dangerous to our fragile emotions, then we sacrifice the child at the altar of self.

Bloody Hands

There is consensus among scientists that life begins at conception. To intentionally end that life for any reason is killing a human being. We can try to sanitize it or call it by another name to appease our conscience, but that doesn’t change the reality of what is happening.

If you support the practice of abortion, encourage abortion, or do anything the make abortion acceptable, legal, or normal, then there is blood on your hands…the blood of babies. You are endorsing child sacrifice. Doing so isn’t compassionate or caring, it’s hatred toward human beings who aren’t as developed as you. It’s not caring for women, it’s excusing murder. You are carrying out the desires of Satan, who was a murderer from the beginning.

It’s not your right to choose death for someone else.

“Open your mouth for the mute, for the rights of all who are destitute. Open your mouth, judge righteously, defend the rights of the poor and needy” (Proverbs 31:8-9, ESV).
