A collection of links from around the web to encourage your growth in grace!

Satan Wants You Alone This Sunday

“When most of us think of going to church, we don’t consider what is happening behind the scenes. But understand this: Sunday morning is a spiritual-warfare battleground. Satan’s attacks aim at hindering faith (Luke 22:31–32). God’s aim in the assembly is to edify faith (1 Corinthians 14:26; Colossians 3:16). Gathering with the flock is akin to assembling for war. Liturgy is our battle plan given by the Lord of hosts.”

Performative Grief

“We all know what it is to perform grief—to ensure that others are aware of our sadness by forcing them to see our sorrow. We may do this to gain their attention or compel their sympathy. We may do this because we make grief an idol and are only validated when others feel sorry for us and express their concern. We may do this as a means of manipulating others so they do our will. Yet while such forms of performative grief are obviously sinful, I am convinced there is another form that is not. There is a way in which we can perform our grief publicly and receive God’s blessing.”

Food Is Not My Master

“My urge to endlessly consume junk food stemmed from two places: a sinful attitude toward food and ADHD-driven dopamine seeking. My flesh simply wanted whatever looked and tasted good in whatever quantity I could get my hands on. If I could’ve drunk three milkshakes a day and kept my weight at 180, I would’ve done it.”
