The Fruit of Confessing Sin

“Confessing in this way purifies our hearts, deepens our humility, maintains our fellowship, and enables us to see the glory of Jesus all the more clearly. Repentance does not just give us a clear conscience before God; it also deepens our fellowship and grows us in holiness.”

World on Fire

“‘The source’ of all the fighting, of all the fires, isn’t “out there” with some person or group we disagree with. It is ‘in here.’ The spark is the sinful passions and desires within the human heart, both yours and mine. Our mouths simply give them voice. As Jesus put it in Luke 6:45, ‘[the] mouth speaks from the overflow of the heart.'”

The Unbelief in my Belief

“But, at the root of my fear to speak forthrightly with my flight companion or the new neighbor is the sin of unbelief. I worry more about the delivery, the receipt, the uncomfortable silence I’m sure will follow a remark about sin. But Paul never said to worry about how the message is received. He never said to twist any arms or convince someone to pray a prayer by any means possible. He said that what matters is the message: Jesus.”

A Hidden Beauty

“God has revealed himself, no longer a masked beauty hinted at by ancient law and prophets, or by dazzling displays of far-off galaxies, he is fully revealed in the Christ; Jesus—the agent and goal of all Creation. ”

We Need Eschatology Right Now

“Eschatology isn’t so much about millennial positions or the structure of Revelation. It’s about how one deals with the sad things in the world.”

Neither Despair Nor Blind Optimism
